An insert drops a new window into the old frame. It's faster, but it leaves a possibly rotted frame in place and slightly shrinks the glass area. Full-frame replacement removes everything down to the rough opening, so any hidden damage can be repaired and you get maximum glass area and energy performance. We do full-frame only.
In most homes, yes. The biggest improvement comes from replacing single-pane windows or older units whose seals have failed, because that stops air leaks. Upgrading from newer double-pane windows gives a more modest improvement. We'll give you honest expectations for your home at the estimate.
